The Resurrection of Our Lord

Dear brothers and sisters,

“Alleluia! Christ is risen!”

What sweet words to say. What fantastic news to hear.

“Alleluia! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!”

Will these words flow joyfully off your lips in the days and weeks as “Merry Christmas” did three months ago? Or will they drift into the subconscious mind after Easter Egg hunts and family photos are over?

Hermann Sasse once wrote:
I saw a sight once while visiting New York during Easter that has been forever burned into my memory. In one of the busiest areas of the city, a center of traffic, where a countless number of people pass by night and day, someone had hoisted an inscription between two high-rises. “Christ is risen.” Not a single person out of the hundreds and thousands of those passing by daily could avoid the message. “Christ is risen! – He is risen indeed!”

This remains our message today; it must be engraved upon your hearts and minds that you cannot avoid the joy of confessing in your lives, “Christ is risen! – He is risen indeed!”

Because it is the message that transforms history and resurrects and gives life. This is the message that must abide with you and revive you of your dead and melancholy hearts.

It is the joy that directs your heart to the object of your faith, Jesus Christ.

So rejoice on this day and exclaim as if you cannot avoid it, “Alleluia! Christ is risen!

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!”
