Trinity 14
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,
Over the past year, we’ve discussed many aspects of the Church Year and liturgy in our Sunday Bible Class. One topic discussed was how items of the Sanctuary have historically been arranged to teach the way of the cross and the way of faith.
In light of these conversations, many members have asked about moving the Baptismal font near the entrance of the Sanctuary.
You see, when the baptismal font is at the sanctuary's entrance, we have a pulpit and lectern in the chancel near the altar. The four items form the shape of a cross, reminding us as we enter the sanctuary that we are entering the life of Christ.
This is an incredible way to remember our Baptisms and the story of Jesus.
As we bring children to the font to be Baptized, as we bring them to remember their Baptisms, we should recall the Proverb,
Train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverb 22:6)
Because our Baptisms set us on the path of life, our baptism directs us to see and hear the voice of our Savior so that we all grow older; we will keep Jesus constantly before us.
As you walk past the font from this day forward, remember the Apostle Paul’s words and the joy you already have in Christ Jesus!
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. (Romans 6:3-5)
In the peace of Christ,
Pastor Rogness
