Advent I

Advent Devotions

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The season of Advent is upon us, and this is a great time to set aside time for reading and growing in God’s Word. Last year, many members read the little book God is in the Manger by Dietrich Bonhoeffer . This is a beautiful book to reread and grow into, especially since the movie about Bonhoeffer’s life was just released in theaters.

Additional books to aid your devotional life include:
- Treasury of Daily Prayer
o A devotional book with your readings and prayers all in one place.

- Lutheran Service Book
o You can’t go wrong with the hymnal. Begin with pages 294-298, then find a favorite hymn to sing!

- God Grant it by C.F.W. Walther
o This devotional book follows the lectionary and will help you grow into the weekly readings at church.

- Celebrating the Saints by William Weedon
o Here, you have a book that will take you into the lives of the Church’s prophets, martyrs, and saints.

You can always contact me with questions about any of these books. Most of all, I hope and pray you’ll set aside some extra time this Advent to grow in God’s Word and prepare for the coming of the Christ child.

In Christ,
Pastor Rogness
